Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this. . . I have been puzzled for a while now why, when I set my CAD model to an ISO view orientation prior to saving and sending it to Keyshot, it  opens in KS in a different orientation. ??? As I dug into it I see that in Keyshot the view is rotated 90 degrees about the Y axis relative to the CAD view. I wouldn't call it a bug, it just takes me a bit to reorient the model in KS.

Can anyone explain the reasoning for this ISO orientation?

On the import dialog you should see an option for the UP direction, Y or Z ... You should not need to model to suit KS.

Most CAD/NURBs modelling apps use Z as up, where as most polygon modelling apps use Y as up .... Which are you ?

Y for vertical is apparently used by some polygon modeling packages. However Z for vertical is by far the predominate orientation because it abides by the long established and universally accepted Cartesian coordinate system which uses Z as vertical. Z vertical is the standard for engineering and manufacturing including CNC machines and 3D printing which is a huge computer design arena. Keyshot obviously chose to be partial to the minority system.

I don't think KeyShot showed any bias at all, Modo, Houdini, Maya and many others use Y as up. Most polygon apps do. Even Autodesk can't make its mind up, 3DS Max uses Z as up and yet Maya uses Y. The only consistent use of Z as up seems to be NURBs based apps such as Solid Works, Rhino and many others, this is why KS gives you option when importing to explicitly say which way is UP.

Thanks for the replies, guys, but none of them answered my question.

Not sure why you even would have to reorient your model. Just move the camera.

I think I figured it out, I changed the ISO view camera Azimuth from -45 to -135 because I wanted to match the Standard ISO view in Keyshot to the Standard ISO view from CAD but the two are pointing in different directions.

Now that brings up another question. Can the camera settings be saved outside of the current file so they can be reused for other projects?

You can't export the camera settings, but you can save an empty bip file and then use it as the default scene when starting a new project.
