Texture animation

Good morning,

I would like to animate the hot and cold water flowing on tubes using animated textures red an blu.
Even if I can assign animated gif, when I render they remains static (see file attached).

Do you know how to do it?

Hi Francesco,

You can animate a texture (fade, colors, etc.) but an animated texture isn't supported just yet.

Not sure of a way to pull off that type of animation. Maybe some of our awesome forum members will have some ideas.

I have no clue how to create this script, but I'm sure that a script can handle this.
Just like a script handle multiple CAD files, it should be possible to handle iteration of textures. So tha gif or video file has to split in separate frame files. The first frame will be used as a texture. Then the scene goes into the queue. And then the script replace the frame texture with the next iteration, and so on ...
In combination with animation steps (camera or parts moves or blending things) it will be lil complex.

Who can finish this challenge?

A lot of that you could do with glowing spheres following the pipe shape.
Probably easier to do in After Effects,  if you have the Adobe Suite

I wonder if it is possible to move a texture between different frames, to simulate an animated texture.

Hey Francesco-

Here's what I came up with. The flow indicator texture is a transparent PNG gradient (512x2048), which is blended over a planar mapped Color Gradient node texture via a Color Composite node. The Mapping type for the PNG is UV Coordinates. I applied a Number Fade animation node to the Shift Y parameter, moving from 0 to -.04, 5 seconds in duration. Adjust the Shift Y amount accordingly for the length of your animation. Let me know if this helps.
