Hi all,

playing around building an interior apartment scene. Feel free to critique and offer advice.

Render settings are currently set to custom ( full simulation minus ground illumination and caustics)

I have a HDRI background set to a brightness of 4 with an invisible ceiling plane set to 800 watt.

My mistake. The brightness was set to 2.5

Hi Jet1990.

Great start on something that I believe you can push way further in terms of realism.
A few first thoughts:

1. add more details in the modeling. (i.e. the wire of your pendels is just going straight into the ceiling. Try to find a few references on how this looks in real life and replicate that)
2. The HDRI lighting doesn't seem to mach your backplate. HDRI lighting suggests that the sun is setting, while the backplate looks like midday.
3. What kind of floor material are you trying to recreate? A bit hard to read from the current renderings.

Hope it helps you to kick this project in the right direction.
Best,

Best,

thanks for the input. I'm going to replace the outdoor image to something around dusk.

I'm going for the textured paint look for the walls and floor. I'm currently playing with the bump on the floor to get it just right.

So I've changed the background image to a dusk shot.

2 low res renders attached. 1 with just the HDRI environment casting light and another with my ceiling plane light shining down (5500k @ 300watt)

might be worth noting that the apartment roof is majority glass as i wanted this part of the design.

the problem i find is only using the HDRI results in the overall image being a little too dark for my lighting but then using the ceiling light creates abit of a warm glow overall. Obviously i can tweak both of these elements until im happy but i find this is the most time consuming part of the process.
