Hello! I am currently doing a light study for a project in San Diego using the sun and sky Hdri but I cant seem to place my object in the right location. is there a way to see a legend/compass and to accurately place something in the right direction?

No, not as of now. Your best bet is to dolly out so you can see your environment and rotate your model or camera in relation to the sun.
