Camera Orbit by picking pivot point

It would be nice to have the possibility to create a camera orbit around a pivot point.

A trick I've done in the past has been to create an object from the edit menu, such as a sphere or cube, and place that at the pivot point in space that I want, and then do an animation based off that geometry. If I do not want to show the object, I just turn it off, pivot point still works.
