Landscape preset 1280x1024 and resulting image size.

I notice that when I start a new scene in KS7 and select 'Landscape preset 1280x1024' my image size changes to 1238x990 but when I do the same in KS6 my resulting image size is 1278x1022 - which slightly bigger.
Is that because the menus GUI take up slightly more real estate on the screen in KS7?
Just trying to understand the difference...

The ribbon with the added text takes up more space. It will not display anything past the screen resolution.
