Keyshot 6 is crashing on startup.  It was just fine and I was just using it. I went to the cloud library and downloaded a material. It had me log in and just then it crashed. It hasn't started since. This is including after a reboot and deleting .xml file. Also tried a Visual C++ redist "repair"

UPDATE
I tried running the updater that was popping up to install 6.3.  That crashed and failed.

I tried uninstalling the program and then installing it.  Same crash on run.

Windows 7.  1080TI with recent drivers.  I had been using Keyshot on this machine a lot for a long time. Not sure what is going wrong now.

Wow wow wow.

So I dug and found the latest material I had downloaded seeing as it was the last action I took when Keyshot crashed and then wouldn't run anymore.

I cut that file (which has a long strange name btw) to the desktop and now the application runs fine. -_-

What bothers me is I had this suspicion since the beginning for obvious reasons but I went back and checked and the material has 0 comments , 34 upvotes, and 1697 downloads leading me to believe it was probably fine.

Looks like I'll be the first to comment!

For those running in to this thread for whatever reasons your answer may be the "Black painted coated sandblasted weather" material.  It looks cool but it might be what destroyed your Keyshot.    May be it works in 7? or on Windows 10? couldn't say.
Run a search and sort by date on your C:/User/My Documents/Keyshot folder and find the .mtl file and delete it.

I just tested the material on my windows 10 machine using KeyShot 6 and 7 and do not have any issues.

Now that you have removed the material are you able to run the update installer for 6.3? I can see the material was created in 6.3.19 so perhaps that is the issue?

Thanks,
Rex

Hi Rex. Thanks for checking that! I didn't want to mess around but I was figuring it could be something like a Ram problem (been meaning to run a mem86 but havent gotten around to it) and it saved poorly or a version problem.  Or a version issue or something.

So, many of us have been using floating keyshot but everybody said we can't update from 6.1 or it breaks. We are paying for a floating lic. and I've been told that it shouldn't be an issue but everybody else who has moved from 6.1 is not able to authorize.  I heard 6.1 has bugs/problems and we'd like to move to a newer version / latest version.

I'll have to bring it up again and see what's up there.

Rex

It could be a lack of memory as the material has some complex labels used as "blend" materials. We have seen this type of thing happen before.

We always recommend updating to the latest build. If you encounter issues updating to 6.3 please email support@luxion.com and we will be happy to assist you.
