Relinking textures changes mapping

I am opening some scenes to create packages and archive them, and there are some textures that aren't linked anymore, possibly I moved them, possibly the folders got renamed, not sure.

Anyway- When I go to relink them, the mapping changes. I've tried dragging the texture file into the link field in the label properties both in the material editor and the matgraph, I've also tried clicking on the little folder icon to open a windows browser and navigate to the file. In all cases, the mapping width and height sliders move, and the graphic is not mapped correctly. How can I recconnect the label texture without it remapping it?

Have you tried putting the file back where it is looking for it and clicking the refresh icon?

I've found that helps, or closing the bip, putting it back in the original location, and then opening the bip back up.

Well the strange thing is that i haven't intentionally changed anything or locations of any textures. These are larger application images that I can sometimes sit on for a month not touching them, waiting for them to be approved. After a time, I opened up three in this series, and most of the textures were unlinked. When the mouse is hovered over the texture name field, it gives the path to where KS thinks the texture is, I'll go there and yep, its there, KS just lost its brain and doesn't know. The refresh button doesn't do anything to relink it, and dropping the texture into the field again results in the scaling and position of the texture changing, like in the screen grab above. I wouldn't be too chuffed if I just had to re-apply the textures by dragging the file into the field again, but now It looks like I have to re-scale and reposition them as well.

So, to answer your suggestion, the files are there, KS just forgot, and resets the mapping when I reapply it. Taken care of for now, but in the future I'll be paying more attention to making sure I'm NOT moving anything or changing folder structures, which I'm not in the habit of doing anyway, but hey stuff happens sometimes. Its the resetting of the mapping that worries me more. I thought I could just drag the file back in somewhere (material editor, mat graph) and keep the mapping information.

Hello Matt,

Thank you for your report.

Unfortunately I am unable to reproduce it myself.

I applied a UV mapped label to a cube, then saved the scene as a bip, closed keyshot, renamed the label name so that keyshot cannot find it.

I then opened keyshot, correctly got "Texture missing", and then reapplied as usual.

None of the values changed for me.

I did find that if you apply a label with a different aspect ratio, the width/height will change to match that aspect ratio (for me the height decreased).

May I ask, what version of KeyShot are you using exactly?

Also, if you still have a scene where this happens, could you provide a KSP? (you may also send this through to support at support@luxion.com)

Hi Philip-

I was able to fix the issue by dragging the original texture into the matgraph and manually copying the numbers from the current texture to the newly dragged in one, then connecting the new node where the old one was connected. So as of right now I am ok on that project, but I will peel off extraneous stuff and pack up a ksp to send to you. It was really odd, and I tried to figure out why it was doing it. I'll send it to you via wetransfer.

ok, I can't get it to happen again :) After "fixing" the textures last time when I went to archive it, seemed to have cleared out any problems. I've tried unllinking, moving the textures, renaming them, and when I replace them it works as it should.

Thinking back, it might have been something goofy with the way I put the textures on. I started with a smaller proxy version of the png file to get approval for it by the client before I bought the image from adobestock. They approved it, I dragged in the higher res image into the same matgraph node and resized etc. Now that I dragged in a completely new node, it seemed to work fine. Not sure really, but it appears to be working quite solid now despite my attempts to mess it up :)
