How to Read Rendering Metadata on Mac?

I see 2 options for exporting metadata with my renderings: .xmp and .meta.  Can someone tell me how to read those files on my Mac?

I'm not on my mac at the moment, but they are sidecar files for apps that can read them. You should be able to open them with TextEdit and just see what they are. I used to export them but they don't really help me at all, and they ended up clogging up my folders.
