updating materials

I have logged this in general discussions, my mistake.

I have a scene with materials that I have created and saved in a new folder.
I then update these materials I want to save them without creating a new one each time. So I create FLOOR and save.. I change FLOOR and what to update my saved FLOOR but I seem to have to create FLOOR #1 FLOOR #2 etc... can I not update a material?
