Hi everyone,

I am very new to KeyShot...less than a week, so please forgive for questions that I know must be posted somewhere on the forum. I am trying to apply a single material to a single part. When I take the material and drop it on my imported .obj file it turns the entire model that color. The model is very large and having to shut off all the parts for each material application would take very long. Is there a way to only apply the material to just the part.

Thanks,
Frank

Right click in the scene browser  the object you are wanting to add a material to and select Unlink Material, then it will give you a new instance of the default, you can now drop your material from the library on that one part. Ideally speaking though, the model should be assigned different layers/colours in the modelling stage

Thank you. I now do remember that I need to unlink the components. The if I want that same material applied to multiple parts, I can go back and link the parts.

When you mention that the components should be assigned to different layers/colours in the modeling stage, I am assuming that you mean that should be done in the CAD system. It does make sense to apply the colors to each part in the CAD system. It would be much easier.

Thank you again,
Frank
