Hi all;

We've all had some KeyShot OMG moments, or as I prefer to call it, a Holy S#*t moment.  The first is usually about five minutes after installing KeyShot.

Well, this AM I decided to play with IES Lights.  Started with the Lesson 2 Advanced Lighting in KeyShot 4 tutorial, available on the KS website in Resources.  Then I found a selection of IES profiles and downloaded them.  And dropped one onto the soft box geometry.

Result, in about five minutes, is below.  Only ONE IES "SoftDisplay" and the Area Diffuse inside the portrait niches and the vertical cyc lights behind the wings.  All others turned off.  Startup HDR brightness set to 0.

I know what I'm going to be doing today, even though I shouldn't.  My client will just have to wait!

Hi Bill those IES lights are fun aren't they. I have been working on an interior scene which is proving to be way too much fun. It can be used with either HDRI maps to check natural lighting or can be used with IES to check the moods achievable with artificial lighting, the hope being that it will be useful for interior designers. Feel free to give it a go and pass on some feedback to me if  have the the time. http://grabcad.com/library/interior-rendering-test-studio-1

Gotta get back to real work!  But this is about where I'd want to be for a proposal presentation.  100% IES lights x 5, HDR @ 0 brightness.  It defines the exhibit walls with just cast light.  I'd probably add a roof truss system to define volume, again relying on cast light and material reflection, as ceilings are usually black.

Yummy, I can smell the wood in those images!
Indeed IES lights are a very powerful addition to KeyShot, especially with the radius setting in 4.1.
