I have a scene where I want to create a Toon animation. I have parts moving under a clear dome and I want to see the parts have self shadows, but even with the dome's transparency set to 1 everything under the dome is in deep shadow. Can having transparency set to 1 not cast shadows?

Glass is not a "toon" material and will significantly both alter the sketch look and increase rendering time.

Doh! My mistake, i thought you were doing toon parts inside a pseudo real clear dome, sort of like a snow shaker

I've had the same issue, and there appears to be no option than to use clear glass.  It will sort of work if your HDR is strictly shades of grey, or B/W.  If you use a colored HDR, like an outdoor or landscape, you need to fully desaturate it using the KeyShot HDR Edit.

It would be nice to see a truly transparent toon material option, or one with "no material", allowing only edges to show.

I have not tried it with toon, but I wonder if an occlusion would work?
