just finished this up for the cghub.com dragon challenge.   had a ton of fun with it.   hope you like.

The Flower Dragon is a rare member of the Mantidae Family closely related to the Mantis. They live in large flowers and spend most of the day waiting for prey. They cut the stigma of the flower off with their back feet and then use the modified antenna to lure prey in.

Beautiful work. I assume you used ZBrush for this?

Josh3D

Dude. Creeeeeepy! Love it!! Just glad it's bug size :)

Andyjonescreative

yeah i used zbrush c4d and of course keyshot.   using the new GOZ plug in and it works flawlessly.   and of course photoshop goes without saying,.

I presume the bokeh effect was made in post? Nice work.

It's soo ugly, but I want to hold it.  I wish real bugs were that cool.  it'd be nice to see some variations.  or maybe a battle scene against a foe ;)

Dylan

Brilliant work. That bug looks really scary.

Hey thanks everyone,  I had a lot of fun with this one.

No I did the bokeh in Keyshot, ready here I will explain

So I set up a couple planes in front of my camera.  Placement is obliviously important cause you want to be looking straight through all the planes.

Then i loaded up a couple of particle images with alphas.

then just set the DOF with a low fstop depending on the scale of our scene.

you can mix up  the particle layers and get creative with it.   Remember to set the DOF at least 3 or 4 in the render palette.   Let me know if you need help.

Holy moly, that is absolute genius!! Great idea  :D

That is very creative and inventive Andy!  Sometimes I forget KS is a "camera" and traditional photography techniques can be applied.
