Hello,

I would appreciate any help/direction for the following issue. How do I make a rendering in KeyShot that looks like lacquer has been applied to it? I have tested various materials including Glossy Paint, Liquid, and Metallic Paint with limited results. I have also explored using various HDRs, either custom or supplied by KeyShot, but still my results are not close.

I have attached my rendering for your review. Metallic Paint is being used for the purple parts. Any ideas or suggestions to make the purple parts look like lacquer was applied would be appreciated.

Thank you,

Neil

Apply a transparent label and increase the IOR. Make sure to set the specularity color to white in the label dialog.

Hope this helps.

Hello Thomas,

Thank you for your reply. I have tried to follow your instructions, but with negative results.

This is what I have done:
1] In Photoshop CS6 I created a 5" x 5" 72ppi transparent PNG-24 file
2] I applied the transparent PNG label to the material with Specular Color set to white, Refraction Index set to 3.

I've applied the effect to my purple model as well as KeyShot's wine bottle. I have attached screenshots of the Material Panel with wine bottle and Refraction set to 1 and set to 3. There's no difference between both versions.

Any suggestions?

Neil

Do you have an example image of the look you are after?

Chad Holton

If you're still using metallic paint, crank up the clear-coat refraction index. That may give you the look you're after.

Hello NDenekamp,

The lacquer, glossy effect I had in mind is of a Violin rendered in KeyShot and posted recently. See attachment. Your thoughts of how you would achieve this lacquer, glossy effect would be appreciated.
