I couldn't find any reference to this utility node in the documentation, but was able to import and save to my library the double-sided material published by Marco in the thread https://www.keyshot.com/forum/index.php?topic=15478.0

Seems the node is still functional, is this an undocumented feature? Would be helpful to be able to access this node in the material graph.

Hi jayjay76-

For KeyShot versions 7 and 8, you need to edit the .xml file to make the Surface Backside Mask available in the Material Graph. Close KeyShot. Open the .xml file (found in Documents > KeyShot 8 ) in a text editor such as WordPad, and search for "experimental_features". Set the bool value = "true". Save the file and close the text editor. Restart KeyShot and the SBM should be an available utility in the Material Graph.

Cheers,
Eric

Hey that worked, thanks! Can you point me to documentation on experimental features?

Hi jayjay76-

You're welcome. As far as I know, the experimental features are not documented. A couple of years ago, I put together a fairly in-depth tutorial on the Surface Backside Mask using KeyShot 6. I think the information still holds relevant. I am attaching it for you to check out if you'd like. It contains a KSP file and detailed notes. I hope it might help.

Cheers,
Eric

For an example of a more complex usage of the Surface Backside Mask, see my post here:
