@NM-92 I´m pretty happy how the leather turned out too :) Thanks for your feedback!

Time for some new images from our kitchen and household brand.

@camomiles

That's awesome! This is my favorite water kettle design from our range. Always a great surprise when I see or hear someone bought this. And thanks for your kind compliment.

Have a look at more renderings from this year-

Wow! Lots of great work. Glad to see these. Are you doing rendering only, or 3D modeling or design at all? Just curious. Really clean images and you have a pretty recognizable style. Sweet!
Title: Re: New product renderings 2018
Post by: puyopuyo on October 06, 2018, 01:02:17 AM
Will, yes it's all hardsurface modeling done with Maya and Zbrush by me- except the last 2 the vacuum cleaner and the copper fan which are models by my coworker.

Occasionally I give input on color or material variations using Keyshot but my focus is 3D product visualization.

Here are new renderings of our podcast microphone set.
Probably the most complex model I had to make at my current job, but the lighting and rendering went really smooth.

Oh yes, the details here are mesmerizing! Love the grid and the details though! And it's so fun to light a model with a detailed grid such as did, don't you think?

What do you model in?

You are right it is so much fun to light a model like a microphone grill!  :)
I could light microphones all day long and leave work very satisfied in the evening- I have to recommend our purchase department to get lots of new microphones.

It is all hardsurface modeling done in Maya with a little bit of cheating in ZBrush. And by cheating I mean that I perform boolean subtractions and then smooth over the edges to get a look as if it was one continous part with nice beveled edges in a very short amount of time.
The illustration on the giftbox was done by an Illustrator in Adobe Illustrator before I made the model- but the toon shaders in Keyshot are great and I have done this style of renderings for this purpose many times.

Thank you so much guys, it is really great for me to get a compliment for modeling, since it was below average for the longest of time!

Yes, the leaf blower aside, it is all modeled in Maya and ZBrush. I don´t do the Industrial Design only the visualization.

I think so too- that's why I post them here. I hope it doesn't come across like an ad for the products of my company. I would imagine if someone saw these with graphics in their Instagram feed they think it is a paid ad and dismiss them, so only renderings without them go into my Instagram account. :)

Also like I told Magnus I have a new coworker dedicated to creating graphics for our renderings and she did most of the graphics from the last 2 pages so I cannot claim ownership for them.

Seriously! Mice are the most difficult products to model imo.  They seem basic until you get to model all the hard edges and the transition between all the parts. :D And they are extra hard to render because you are used to see them from way up in daily life and they will always look much to fat if you put the camera on their level. To answer your question, in this case I was lucky to get CAD data for rendering.

Here are some shots of a new power drill.

It´s the Keyshot Mango juice! Went a bit more into detail about the post processing involved here: https://www.keyshot.com/forum/index.php?topic=24073.msg101029#msg101029

@fa2020 I use Maximum Samples 300-500 on each render. Took around 10-30 minutes for each on a 32 core farm.

Here are my latest renderings- a Reciprocating / Sabre Saw with an exploded view I originally made for the last render weekly challenge.  ;D

congratulations for your work, beautiful.
I also use keyshot for some product jobs.
For example, for the reflection of the image 4.jpg (for the fryer) how did you do it? is it a post production?
And to increase realism, do you also use depth of field? or do you always process your renderings with photoshop or after effects?

Thanks for answers.
And great great jobs ;) ;) ;)

congratulations for your work, beautiful.

Thanks!
For this shot I modeled some simple 3d ricebowls for the reflections on the cooker the rest is added in photoshop.
I tend to use depth of field only for closeup or context shots, mostly the Keyhsot DOF and I think it looks great.
I definitely use photoshop on every rendering for color correction, contrast etc. and dodge and burn tool to add more punch to the highlights and shadows.

All of your work are just flawless. The saw is absolute killer, and the controller with the hands are extremely well done! I find it difficult to merge renders with backplate, but this is just perfect. Well done as per usual .

This thread is now classified as a museum to proper product CGI.
Haha, sounds so official.
Here are some new context shots for a PC/PS3 gamepad- second one is with a backplate again.

These two in particular are stupid good, the two controller shots with hands.

Hi everyone!
Been really busy with new products recently. Thanks Magnus and Seth for keeping the thread from getting locked! :D
@Magnus Are you sure it´s difficult to merge renderings with backplates for you?  I just make sure to put strong contact shadows in PS between rendering and photo if something sticks out to much...

Here are some of my recent images rendered in Keyshot 8.

@Rex This is what I thought when I first got the sample product of the ethernet cable on my desk too!  :D Glad it came through in the renderings.

Ha, those cat8 cables are coming today to the office :)

Superb texturing & lighting.

Whenever I have tried to re-create LED/LCDs behind glass I felt that something is missing in my renderings.
Yours look very much spot on. Do you mind sharing on how you do this effect on the blue LCD for example?

Hope the cables speed up your network! :D
It´s just a basic gray glass for the cover and an emissive material with the digital numbers. I make some adjustments to the display digits texture in photoshop where I brighten the midpoint of the digit parts with a soft brush to account for the light falloff of the Led behind it.
Dof always helps with the glowiness too. It basically looks like the final image on the rendering, but sometimes I apply an after effects glow or paint over the shining elements with a soft brush.

So far we can't complain, they at least feel faster :D

Yes, the slight falloff is whats making the LED look more real, thanks for your detailed reply on how you achieve this.

Hi everyone, here are some of my recent renderings- the one with the potato wedges is the first commercial one made with Keyshot 9.
I´m really impressed with the update and hope I can get into using the new fuzz and cloth materials on a project soon.
Many thanks to Will Gibbons for the amazing Material Graph Monday tutorials- I´ve learned so much from them!
Have a nice weekend! :D

I agree that these product images are fantastic. Great lighting and materials! How are you doing the call outs? Are you using frontplates for them or are they done entirely in a post process? Your images make me think we should make it easier to make call outs - perhaps as part of the image styles / front plates. Let me know if you have any thoughts on that?

Glad you like my images! The call outs are done in Illustrator after the post processing of the renderings. I used to do it in the beginning but now we have two graphic artists that make them. One advantage of Illustrator is that you can put all renderings in one .ai file on different artboards to make sure all graphics are coherent and form a nice series.
It could be awesome though if the call outs would be interactive and automatically track parts of the model but for our use case I think we will stay with Illustrator.

What I´m missing from frontplates though is the ability to move the frontplate around on x and y. Right now I´m using them for render/photo integration and I have to go back and forth from PS to KS to get the frontplate image to the right postion.

Use this as leverage ! I used to feel like this when i saw amazing renders in the forum. Try to recreate them, ask for advice. Eventually you'll get to a point when you don't see this stuff as impossible to achieve and you end up discovering your own style.

@brahmzxc I use Maya Hardsurface Modeling techniques combined with ZBrush for Boolean operations.

Here a new renderings, I just had the chance to visualize a cool Waterkettle that immediately reminded me of Japanese tableware so I made a context render with green matcha tea.

That´s some great advice. I´m gonna take a bit of that for myself.

Here are some new renderings from a juicer. I´ve included a clay render to show the difference.

Just gave it another look on my 5k screen at home and really, there's nothing about it that says "rendering". I think that most people (even those who know they are looking at renderings on forum full of renderings) would believe it's a photo. It's truly remarkable. Great work!
